What I've Been Reading

by - May 31, 2015

I recently finished the book by Cassey Ho. Cassey is young and fit. I'm sure I'm not someone falls in her typical reader demographic. ~I'm not in my 20s or even my 30s. For me, a "hot" body means I'm having a personal summer. Or, at the very least a Carolina summer.

Though I may not be her typical reader, I am a inspired reader. The subtitle is "The Pop Pilates Plan to Get Slim, Eat Clean and Live Happy Through Every Season". I wasn't familiar with "Pop Pilates" until I got this book. Basically, it's Pilates movements.

Several years ago, after a back injury, I got a referral to a physical therapist that integrated Pilates (and the Pilates machines) in her therapy. I am convinced that working with that therapist is the best thing for my ability to ever return to physical workouts. The Pilates work I did with the therapist started with learning how to breathe. How to BREATHE!

But...that is a topic for another day. TODAY I want to share my thoughts on the book.

* I loved the bright, colorful encouraging words!

A good example is the section on staying motivate. That has been a hurdle for me. The chapter "Fitness is a Journey" is truly encouraging. In fact, I just re-read it. I will likely read it again (maybe over and over).

* She really DOES know what she is talking about.

She speaks from personal experience but she also includes some scientific studies. ~Don't let that stop you...she boils it down to the useful snippets. She doesn't get too "sciencey".

* It's visually appealing and a pleasant read.

I enjoyed reading it out on my porch while the weather was still perfect. You know....an exercise book has the potential get a little dry. But this one is like reading a magazine. There's no feeling of textbook "how to". And there is NO SHAMING. Just encouragement.

* The exercises are totally doable.

Her workout plan includes variations for beginners too.

She also includes many yummy recipes. I really do feel like "I can do it".

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
