Signs of Spring

This is absolutely one of the most spectacular sights!
This is absolutely one of the most spectacular sights.
A Momma hummingbird taking care of her two babies. I was able to capture a couple of screen shots from the Live Camera. You can check out the LIVE CAM here.

I also want to thank Susan at the blog Between Naps on the Porch for generously sharing about the Hummingbird Cam. She has some really good photos on her post!

I couldn't resist going to the Live Cam this weekend. And I logged in tonight as well. The three photos in my collage above are from tonight. Watching the Live Cam is so addicting. I've flipped back to the feed no less than 20 times since I started writing this post. You really need to see when the Momma Hummingbird comes and feeds these sweet babies.

I also have another treat for you. Below is the video of the second baby being added to the nest. One of the eggs did not hatch, but the care takers of the Live Cam found an orphaned hummingbird. I guess it makes sense that the orphaned bird was close in age to the baby already in the nest. Since the breeding season is the same for hummingbird pairs, it's logical that many Momma birds would have hatchlings at around the same time.

Anyway, the video shows the caregiver placing the orphaned baby into the nest. The person's hand helps give context and scale and makes it clear just how small these creatures are.

Watching this sweet Live Cam was the icing on the cake of a Spring Day! I know the calendar says there are a few more days before Spring is official. But, 71-degree weather when I drove home from work at a still sunny 5:00 (Hello DST) tells me that it's Spring....no matter what the calendar says.

  1. Kimberly, they really are so sweet. I love watching, too. Phoebe is a good Mommy! :)

  2. I love your blog! Following now, stay in touch xx

I love comments. They make me very happy. Thanks for making me happy today!
