Baby Hummingbirds

by - March 24, 2013

Remember when I shared the hummingbird Live Cam? The photo on the left is from March 12th. Aren't they a cute family?

I checked back in on them on the 22nd and the babies were so much bigger. But they were still babies and still waiting for Momma to bring food.

I watched this for a long time. I was mesmerized  I saw Momma bird come several times, but couldn't get a good shot because she was very fast.

I checked back in this morning and was surprised that one of the babies had fledged! One sweet little baby was perched on the side of the nest. He was so awkward.

Not to worry, Momma bird came by to feed the baby.

Not too long after Momma bird left to find more baby food, the fledging chick returned! He even shared his lunch with his sibling before they both settled back into the nest to wait for Momma.

And then, suddenly, the babies flew off...just like that.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing this. I was mesmerized last week watching the live cam, too. It's hard to imagine how tiny they must be.
