A Halloween Post {of sorts}

by - October 31, 2012

It's that time again. The time of year when people dress up like super heroes or vampires or monsters or zombies.

I  struggle with the whole "dress up" thing. I enjoy seeing others dress up...especially if they are creative. Several years back, I saw a person walking down the street with purple leotards and purple balloons all over her body. (Grapes). How bold! But how perfect.

I, myself, rarely want to dress up. It's really just that it's too much trouble. And the weird thing about work places (at least the ones I've worked at) is that there's this whole "morale" / "team building" mindset of management that kicks in. Different places I have worked started with the philosophy that "it's okay to dress up as long as the prescribed 'do nots' are followed." The prescribed "do nots" actually make sense...I mean, after all, most of my jobs have been working for a bank (typically in operations). So, there is the whole mentality of not scaring customers.

Then, something changed in the world of workplace management psyches. It stopped being "dressing up is 'okay'" and became "dressing up is how you show team spirit".
Yep, really. Okay, I try to have a positive attitude but I don't want to dress up if you tell me I have to. I just want to come to work and go home.

Here is an excerpt about my "favorite" work Halloween costume story. This happened maybe 4 or 5 years ago:

Here are my thoughts from last year's Halloween:
But, in this case I surprised myself.
Even though I'm not a fan of the corporate dress up trend...I do enjoy a certain amount of Halloween quirkiness.

Though, I must tell you...I don't and can't do haunted houses or haunted woods or anything haunted. I just can not do it. Please don't ask. And, no, it doesn't matter that a five year old just came out without crying.

Anyway...last year I participated in the local zombie lurch.  {I told you I like quirkiness.}

Hope you are enjoying your October festivities...whatever they may be.
